Sexy Video Sunday - Priceless (2006)

One of my favorite recent foreign movies is Priceless (Hors de Prix) starring Audrey Tautou (Amelie) and Gad Elmaleh (The Valet, he also had a small role in Woody Allen's Midnight in Paris). The story is a modern re-telling of Breakfast at Tiffany's. Irene (Tautou) makes a living as a golddigger who seduces wealthy older men. Jean (Elmaleh) is a humble, naive hotel worker on the French Riviera. After Irene's sugar daddy Jacques gets drunk and passes out on the night of her birthday, she meets Jean at the bar. Because of a case of mistaken identity, Irene believes Jean is a rich hotel guest instead of a hotel employee. The two become acquainted over cocktails. One thing leads to another and they have a drunken tryst in a fancy suite.

A year later, Irene returns to the same hotel with Jacques and notices Jean. Despite the marriage proposal she has coveted from Jacques, she and Jean hook up again. However, Jacques has discovered she has cheated on him and dumps her. She lies and says she has left Jacques to be with Jean, but she soon discovers he has not a penny to his name. He even goes through his entire savings to shower her with gifts and make her happy, at least for a short while. I know the feeling. ;-)

The rest of the movie follows Jean's pursuit of the woman he loves and how he becomes a gigolo to a wealthy widow. We see how determined Jean is to win Irene back, learn the tricks of the trade as a male companion, and by mirroring Irene's behavior, he is able to slowly seduce her and make her fall for him.

The movie is very sexy, as only the French can do, and Audrey is adorable and charming. Gad is hilarious and hints of Alain Delon show in his performance as the innocent, but noble Jean. Now, I'm just waiting for a reverse of this where the man is the main protagonist. Maybe I should write one. :-)

Here's the trailer. C'est magnifique! :-D
